Brownsburg pastor arrested for theft from Goodwill

Arrested

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (Jan. 25, 2015)– A Brownsburg pastor was arrested Monday and charged with theft.

Denis Roy, 45, was arrested for theft from Goodwill. Roy is the pastor of New Day Church in Brownsburg and is a police chaplain.

Brownsburg Police say Monday afternoon, a Goodwill employee stopped Roy in the parking lot after they thought he stole clothes.  Police were then called and Roy was arrested.  Police say Roy admitted to the crime and they don’t believe this is the first time this has happened.

“The investigation is leading us down a path that goodwill believes Mr. Roy has actually committed theft in the past from their establishment, so that is something we are looking into,” Jennifer Pyatt-Barrett, captain with the Brownsburg police department.

FOX59 talked with Roy at the church hours after he bonded out of jail.  Our crews asked him if he had anything to say for himself or about what happened.  All Roy said was “no.”

“I guess people are human and even if you’re a pastor you can be tempted to do things that you know you shouldn’t do,” explains Martin Topi, who lives in Brownsburg.

Roy was charged with a misdemeanor.  This is an ongoing investigation and there could be more charges.

“I think it’s a sad day for he, his family, and where we stand as a department. It’s one of those thing you take it as it is and as it comes in,” explains Pyatt-Barrett.
